Just a few weeks after it was revealed that Rihanna turned down the offer to perform at the Super Bowl LIII halftime show, a petition has popped up on the Internet demanding that Maroon 5, who is scheduled to headline, step down.
The Change.org petition was started by a user named Vic Oyedeji two weeks ago and has already garnered 35,194 signatures. “Until the league changes their policy and support players’ constitutional right to protest, no artists should agree to work with the NFL,” the description reads. “Join me in asking Maroon 5 to drop out of the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show.”
“The band has a chance to stand on the right side of history,” it continues. “If they don’t, they will be remembered for choosing to side with the NFL over its players.”
