He said, she said. In a new court filing, troubled actor Johnny Depp is claiming Amber Heardattacked him when they were married. This of course, is in stark contrast to the physical abuse allegations she leveled against him during their contentious divorce.
In court documents obtained by People, Depp made the claims as part of a libel case in the U.K. (He wants newspapers to be compelled to stop publishing articles that say he abused Heard).
The 55-year-old says Heard attacked him after he arrived two hours late to her 30thbirthday party on April 21, 2016. He says that he’d been stuck in a meeting and had kept her apprised of his lateness via text.
In the papers, Depp reportedly claims Heard criticized him after the party, allegedly becoming “aggressive and violent, punching him twice in the face.”
Depp allegedly responded by “grabbing [her] arms to stop her punching him again and told her to stop.” He then pushed her onto the bed, he says.
The documents also dispute Heard’s previous claims that he attacked her on May 21, 2016.
An attorney for the actress tells The Mirror, “These allegations are totally false. One needs only read the recent Rolling Stone article about Mr. Depp and the lawsuit filed against him by a location manager, among many other recent news stories and lawsuits, to understand his state of mind.”
Depp is being sued by a location manager on City of Lies who claims he attacked him. Numerous stories have also circulating claiming Depp is battling drug and alcohol issues, including the Rolling Stone piece, in which Depp consumed massive quantities of wine and hash during his interview, which documented his travails, multiple multimillion lawsuits and extravagant spending habits.
- Heard filed for divorce on May 23, 2016. Four days later, she requested a domestic restraining order against him, which was granted. As evidence, she submitted a photo of herself with a bruise under her eye as evidence that Depp threw a phone at her. She also previously claimed that Depp “shoved” her to the ground after her birthday dinner.
- Depp and Heard met in 2011 and married in February of 2015. They were officially divorced in January of 2017.
