Harvey Weinstein is attempting to have Ashley Judd’s lawsuit against him dismissed. The disgraced movie mogul has been accused by 80+ women of sexual misconduct, including rape. He denies allegations of nonconsensual sex.
Judd is one of many women who have filed suit against him. In April, she sued Weinstein for allegedly sexually harassing her and then systematically destroying her career when she spurned him. Her suit formally charges him with defamation, sexual harassment, interference with prospective economic interference and unfair competition.
Weinstein’s lawyer Phyllis Kupferstein, argues that Judd waited to long to file suit and that the allegations “fall far short of meeting the ‘pervasive or severe’ required element.”
Judd will be permitted to reply to the arguments. If the case moves forward, observers say that Weinstein and other directors may be forced to testify in the case.
