Two of the five women who accused James Franco of sexual misconduct in a recent Los Angeles Times article appeared on Tuesday’s Good Morning America asking the actor to apologize. “James is absolutely not a Harvey Weinstein,” said Sarah Tither-Kaplan. “He is not an unfeeling monster who has no sense of reality. He created exploitative environments for non-celebrity women on his sets…If we allow any of [these exploitative situations], we allow all of them.” Added accuser Violet Paley, “Please just apologize.”
A source close to James Franco has confirmed the actor is “somewhat relieved” that his performance in The Disaster Artist was not recognized by The Academy’s 2018 Oscars nominations. “James is disappointed in not getting an Oscar nomination,” an insider tells E! News. “But… He doesn’t want it to look like the snub is correlated with the allegations against him.” The source adds, “James is trying to get through this rocky patch and hopes everything will blow over appropriately. He is really leaning on his family right now and trying to stay under the radar as much as possible.” Earlier this month, five women accused the 39-year-old actor of sexual misconduct in a Los Angeles Times exposé.
