Rather than abandoning TODAY following Matt Lauer‘s recent firing over sexual misconduct allegations, even more viewers than usual are tuning in. Page Six reports the morning show’s ratings have soared for the second week in a row. During the first two hours of the program, not only has TODAY beat rival Good Morning America in the coveted 25-54 year-old demographic, NBC’s morning show also led GMA in overall viewers as well. It’s the first time since late 2016 that TODAY has beaten GMA in overall viewership. The surge in audience could be due to curiosity about a post-Lauer TODAY, which may subside soon.
Matt Lauer may have lost his job over numerous allegations of sexual harassment and assault, but the former TODAY co-host isn’t ready to lose his marriage as well. “[He] is fighting to save the marriage,” a source tells People about his 19-year union with wife Annette Roque. “He doesn’t want a divorce. Both of them, their first thought is their children.” Although previous reports indicate that Roque, who was born in the Netherlands, had fled the U.S. for her native country along with the couple’s two younger kids, People claims the she and Lauer are “still under one roof and together, but are no longer wearing their wedding rings.”
