A 2003 interview resurfaced this week in which Quentin Tarantino defended Roman Polanski for having sex with a 13-year-old girl and claimed it wasn’t rape. The public, including victim Samantha Geimer, slammed Tarantino for his stance. He has since called her to apologize and issued a statement to the public. “Ms. Geimer WAS raped by Roman Polanski,” he said on Thursday. “When Howard [Stern] brought up Polanski, I incorrectly played devil’s advocate in the debate for the sake of being provocative. I didn’t take Ms. Geimer’s feelings into consideration and for that I am truly sorry.
So, Ms. Geimer, I was ignorant, and insensitive, and above all, incorrect. I am sorry Samantha.” In the interview, Tarantino claimed that having sex with a minor wasn’t the same thing as rape. He also insisted that she was a “party girl” who “wanted to have it [sex].”
